Isaac Huggins is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Perth, Western Australia. His practice explores the psychological effects of advertising, media saturation, and visual culture on contemporary identity. Working across printmaking, textiles, painting and abstraction, Huggins draws from both high art and mass media to examine how meaning is constructed, manipulated, and consumed.
Huggins’ work often begins with the appropriation of familiar images, particularly from art history and popular culture, which are then reinterpreted through expressive painting, fabric dyeing, and layered screenprinting. The resulting compositions are fragmented, textural, and visually layered, challenging viewers to navigate a space between clarity and obscurity. His process reflects a dialogue between spontaneity and control, influenced by graffiti, street signage, and the residue of late-modernist abstraction.
A central aspect of his practice is the use of bold, typographic elements - screenprinted stencils or painted letterforms that disrupt and compete with the painted or printed surface beneath. These textual interventions echo the visual language of contemporary advertising and raise questions about visibility, authority, and cultural value.
Through a materially rich and conceptually layered approach, Huggins investigates how images shape memory, identity, and power—inviting viewers to reflect on what is seen, what is hidden, and what is lost in translation.
